| General |
- The company shall have a clearly defined environmental goal.
- The company shall have an internal control system to ensure the functioning
of health, environment and safety rules.
- All permits regulating emissions into the ground, water and air shall
be followed.
- Employees shall be informed of and participate actively in making
the company more environmentally friendly and a better place to work.
- The company shall select a representative to be responsible for writing
environmental reports, and developing and maintaining environmental
programs.
- In January or February of each year an environmental status report
and strategic plan shall be distributed to the companys owners
and employees. A copy shall also be filed with the appropriate local
authorities by March 1. The report shall include conditions and proposals
for the physical working environment as well as traditional health,
safety and environment evaluations. The strategic plan should specify
innovations for the current year. (All companies shall use the Eco-
Lighthouse template for their reports).

| Working Environment |
- The company should have access to health and safety services.
- Workplaces must have adequate ventilation and the ventilation system
must be routinely cleaned and inspected.
- Employee conferences/ reviews are to be held annually.
- Employee duties should be as varied as possible, including opportunities
for physical movement.
- The company should organise/sponsor sports or physical activities
for its employees.
Factories/Workshops
- The company must have access to health and safety services.
- Proper and adequate protective gear shall be available and in good
condition.
- All employees shall complete a first-aid course. Refresher courses
shall be held at least every second year.

| Material Purchase and Use |
- The company shall use goods and services that impact the environment
as little as possible.
- The company must require that its main suppliers are also environmentally
friendly businesses.
- Recycled paper products and Eco-cleaning products shall be used as
well as double-sided copying and e-mail.
Building/Remodelling
- Use of space shall be effective and flexible.
- Materials and ventilation systems will ensure a healthy indoor environment.
- Material chosen must be durable and re-useable/recyclable.
- Flexible heating/cooling systems and renewable energy sources shall
be considered in new buildings and when remodelling.

| Waste |
- Use of disposable products shall kept to minimum.
- The company and its suppliers shall not over-package goods. Packaging
shall be re-useable or at least recyclable.
- The company shall implement a minimum of three waste reduction plans.
Two additional strategies must be documented at re-certification.
- The companys environmental representative shall routinely check
the companys waste management including a thorough control twice
a year. Any deviation or need for improvement shall be given immediate
attention.
- The company shall use all local systems for recycling, for example
sorting glass, paper, plastic, and organic waste.
- Hazardous waste shall be properly stored and disposed of.
- Approximately 60% of waste shall be recycled.
- A list of waste management procedures shall be available to all employees.

| Energy |
- Energy consumption shall be registered and periodically checked.
- Environmentally friendly energy sources shall be selected wherever
possible.

| Transportation |
- Employees shall be encouraged to bike, walk, carpool or use public
transportation to get to work. Use of alternative methods of transportation
by employees should be acknowledged and rewarded.
- Use of telephone and video conferencing shall be considered to reduce
company travel.
- Downtown companies should have no more parking places than necessary
for their own use.
Companies having their own fleet of vehicles
- Routes shall be co-ordinated to eliminate unnecessary kilometres.
- Co-operation with other transport firms shall be considered.
- The company shall have statistics for each vehicles fuel consumption
and take measures to reduce these.
- No engine idling.
- Engine warmers shall be installed and used where they are effective.
- Vehicles shall not use studded tires.
- The use of alternative energy driven vehicles (natural gas CNG, propane
LPG or electric) shall constantly be considered.

| Water |
- Companies using water in the production process shall have water meters,
and new water-saving strategies shall continuously be considered.
Companies having their own fleet of vehicles
- Vehicles shall be cleaned with eco-detergents.
- Facilities for washing vehicles shall have approved drainage systems
with oil and sand filters and instructions for usage of these filters.
